I am having my first period in over year, if you don't count the post-pregnancy lochia bleeding.

Bah, I did not miss it.

Alternatives [21 Jun 2004|08:38pm]

Hey, ladies. I was curious - do any of you use alternatives to the traditional disposible tampons and pads? I'm particularly interested in the sea sponges. Have any of y'all tried those? How'd it work out for you? I've become more and more averse to the idea of tampons, handy though they may be, and want to try some alternatives. But I'm hesitant to buy them over the internet. Do you have places near you where you can buy them, rather than having to send away for them?

Any info would be awesome, girls. Let's talk.

My period is two and a half weeks late. Now, I really don't mind that, but now I have no idea when my damned period's going to start and it's bugging the crap out of me. I haven't had sex recently, so I'm not worried about it and my period was always irregular before I went on birth control and now that I'm off, it must think that I'm 12 again.

Stupid period.

I have cramps this week, and I'm getting annoyed because I usually don't get cramps (another benefit of Demulen, I guess).

The pain isn't the worst pain ever, it's just a dull ache, not horrible.

This is a bit off-topic, but does anyone have any remedies or suggestions for the prevention of razorburn in delicate areas?

So, I feel like shit today. No motivation to do anything -- the place is an absolute mess, but I can't be arsed to clean it up. Plus, I had a pretty shitty day.

I call my mom, and she tells me, hey, there are different stages in the cycle. Some weeks are very creative and active for women -- some weeks, i.e. the week of one's period, i.e. this week for me, are dead-in-the-water kinds of things.

She told me to not worry about it -- just relax and remember that probably next week I'll be raring to go with more energy than usual.

Anyone else find this to be the case?

The communists arrived unexpectedly today. I was forced to get Tampax from the local shop. I do not like Tampax. Erm, not tampons. Just Tampax the brand. Something about them, I don't like.

I've been thinking about getting one of these. I think it's kind of like the Keeper, only it's a British product, which helps as I am, in fact, in England. Anyone have any opinions of the Keeper or similar? It seems like a good idea to be more environmentally friendly and it would certainly be more convenient on occasions like this when I somehow find myself without 'assistance'.

Crampy. Lalala. Stupid communists.

So my poor Keeper got lost in the move back from college. I loved that thing. My only issue was difficulties in keeping it clean - I tended to get a buildup of what I believe was yeast. Even with tea tree oil. So I've been using sea sponges since, and while those rock my socks off, I'm considering getting another Keeper or something similar. Anyone have experience with the others, like the Diva Cup?

Or maybe I'll just stick with my sponges. They do serve me well. I just liked the fact that the Keeper would would hold so much and I didn't have to worry about it.

So, these Lunapads you speak of intrigue me. I'm on the Pill and I have a teensy trickle of a period, so it's hardly worth wearing anything more than a pantyliner anyway, since I rarely have much to show for it. Tell me, are they comfy or is it like having a jacket in your crotch?

tea! [30 Jun 2003|07:55pm]

I was looking through the Elle Corazon website today, and I was inspired to try this recipe for tea:

4-5 cups water (always make a pot, not a cup)
1 golfball’s worth of ginger, chopped however you like
2 short sticks of cinnamon
2 heaping tablespoons of dried nettle leaves
2 heaping tablespoons of dried red raspberry leaves

I stopped by the spice store to buy the raspberry leaves (no nettle in stock, unfortunately) and I'm going to make it tomorrow.

I think it sounds tasty, and the idea of making tea in this homemade kind of way instead of from a little bag appeals to me.

Hi, everyone! Welcome to The Summerhouse. The name, of course, comes from my favourite euphemism for menstruation, apparently of Norwegian origin: communists in the summerhouse. (You can peruse a A comprehensive list of euphemisms here.)

There are already fine mensturation-focused communities that exist (menstrualhut is the largest,) but I wanted something smaller for me and my friends. I'm going to leave membership open for now, and if it seems like it should be closed later, then it will be.

So, please join, and enjoy!
